Professional Training Program 2014

An environmental strategic, economy, and social which is effective, efficient, and sustainable to help reducing forest conversion and carbon emisson—known as Reducing Emission from Deforestaion and forest Degradation (REDD)—has been taught by many trainers in various places. Basically, the strategy provides a carbon-trade mechanism to reduce forest conversion along with carbon emission produced from forest logging. Even though REDD mechanism has been available as a concept for time being, the execution to achieve realistic result, reducing forest conversion, conserving biodiversity, and considering the rights of local forest community was proven to be difficult.

Population Response and Adaptation to Air Pollution and Climate Change Impacts in Urban Areas Symposium

Climate change is a dynamic and systemic problem which affects the whole human activities. Rising of temperature and changing of weather pattern are also affecting agriculture and fishery activities. Besides, the rising of sea-level has been a daily problem for the coastal community in Indonesia. The impact of climate change has reached every sectors from socio-economy to environment and others related to health, food security, ecosystem, and biodiversity. Based on that facts, climate change issue is in need for contribution from various sector and thoughts outside general idea.

RCCC-UI is Hosting Analysis for REDD+

RCCC-UI is Hosting A Master Class on Policy Analysis for REDD+: Within a Decentralised ContextREDD+ requires developing countries (and local governments) to set aside additional forest conservation areas that may not necessarily yield additional environmental services for local residents. Additional forest conservation competes with other land-use activities, such as commercial logging, timber plantations and oil palm plantations, which can legally take place in productive forestlands. REDD+ involves technical complexity in terms of its design and implementation and it is also very contentious as stakeholders have different values towards land use and forest management. For this reason, local governments need to be familiar with frameworks and tools of policy analysis for REDD+ and, most importantly, have the capacity to define policy problems and solutions with relevant stakeholders.

“Harmonizing Production Landscape and Conservation in the Era of Climate Change” by Prof. Chris Margules

Prof. Chris Margules is a researcher from Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), Australia. His field of studies include environmental conservation and biodiversity of forest (terrestrial) and sea (aquatic) ecosystem. Besides, Chris Margules also work at Conservation International (CI) as Executive Director of Melanesia Center for Biodiversity Conservation.

Researcher Profile

Multidisplin are Our Strength

Climate change is a natural phenomenon which becomes more complicated in terms of prediction due to various dimensions such as ethics, politics, economics, and humanity which affecting one another. This has been acknowledged and has been an important issue by many of UI’s scientists through their research topics. Through Research Center for Climate Change (RCCC–UI), some of scientists represent multi-disciplinarians and knowledge, and thus become the great opportunity to influence the nation’s policy developments as well as supporting adaptation schemes of local people.

Illustraition of Our Activities

Research Center for Climate Change University of Indonesia (RCCC-UI) have done some project since its established in 2010. Many activities include research program, simposia, training and workshops, general lecture of climate change related issues, and exhibition events. This shows the summary for some our project that describe by slide of photos and narratives, our engagement are not only on physical aspects of climate change, but also social and economical aspect. Supporting sustainable development goals and take it as an opportunity on development issues.
