The inaugural Tri Hita Karana International Conference on Sustainable Development will be held in Bali on October 5th and 6th, as an official side event of the APEC 2013 Summit. It is co-hosted by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network. The conference brings into focus the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, or 3 ways to happiness by seeking harmony and balance of people with each other, with nature, and with creation. SDSN South-East Asia regional hub sponsors University of Indonesia Research Center on Climate Change and United in Diversity (Yayasan Upaya Indonesia Damai) are conference partners.
The ICSD brings together experts on eco-tourism, creative economy, environmental, and social arenas to exchange latest ideas, solutions and best practices in sustainable development, as well as to promote strategic alliances and garner support from APEC economies towards sustainability goals for Asia Pacific.
The conference serves as an international platform to demonstrate Asian leadership and commitment towards sustainable development. The 2013 conference will have a special focus on the implementation of sustainability in the tourism sector, which is a key driver for economic development, and has the potential to reinforce the need for sustainable utilization of natural resources while enhancing the standard of living. This aims to be an annual international conference for sustainable development in Bali or around APEC.
