hasun Amarasinghe is a renowned herpetologist international known for his research work in South and South-East Asia.He is an editorial advisor of HERPETOTROPICOS, Journal on Tropical Amphibians & Reptiles (ISSN: 1690-7930). As a taxonomist, he devote considerable time to preparing species descriptions and taxonomic revisions, usually initiated by findings in the field whilst collecting and also during the visits to various museums looking at specimens. he have been carrying out such work in South and Southeast Asia since 2005, with a main focus on the countries of Sri Lanka, India, Andaman / Nicobar, and Indonesia specifically (excluding fauna of mainland Papua).

There is some of his interests research like taxonomy of South and South-East Asian Reptile and Amphibians; impacts of forest fragmentation and climate change, breeding ecology of amphibians (Family: Rhacophoridae); and behaviour of South-east Asian primates. Thasun has a strong commitment to furthering the IUCN’s vision and mission. He is an expert member of the National Red Listing Committee for the Ministry of Environment, Government of Sri Lanka, and a commission member of the following IUCN committees: CEM South East Asia including Climate Change Adaptation Thematic Group and Red List of Ecosystems Thematic Group; IUCN Species Survival Commission (Amphibian Specialist Group and Crocodile Specialist Group). He is currently a Research Scientist at the Research Center for Climate Change, University of Indonesia (RCCC-UI), Depok, Indonesia.
